This is a high level overview of some of the most exciting feature pushes by Google Gemini.
TRANSCRIPT
0:00 Hi everyone, to one of the most exciting videos I have ever filmed, and in this video we are going to be going over all of the recent feature updates Google Gemini has pushed.
0:13 Now, the reason this video is so exciting is the fact that over the last three years of our AI literacy journey at LearnAIR, Gemini has always been lagging behind the other frontier LLM models like ChatGPT or Claude.
0:29 They've always been lacking on several of the features that these other companies and platforms offered. And it seems like in just the last few days, they have pushed so many features that make it actually comparable or even advantageous in some aspects to the other leading models.
0:46 So this is a huge change. And so in this video, I'm just going to do a high-level overview of all of those changes, and if anything stands out to you, or you've used them in another platform, and you want to use them in Gemini, I encourage you to just go play with it.
1:04 And see what is possible with these new feature updates. What's interesting is that it seems like it hasn't been rolled out to the work plan or the pro Gemini accounts.
1:16 So that's why you'll see this upgrade button. All of these features, however, are new. They're accessible to everyone. So if you have a paid ChatGPT account, but not a paid Gemini account, this video is still for you because all of these changes will be accessible in that free Google Gemini account.
1:34 So without further ado, let me first, introduce you guys to the Notebooks feature, and this seems like an effort to combine Notebook LM, which has now been renamed to Gemini Notebook, and Notebooks within the Gemini web app.
1:51 So just looking at a Notebook, example, this is actually a Notebook that I initially created in Gemini Notebook, and it actually carried over all of the sources that I had uploaded, but what is so amazing now is that is that I can actually chat with it, and every single chat that I have will be based
2:10 on any past chat conversations, all of this recall memory, and the sources, and what's incredible is I can actually see that I custom instructions.
2:23 So, by clicking on the three ellipses dots up here, I can access the notebook settings, and in these settings, this is where you can provide context to the project that you're working on, or the client that this notebook is
2:37 Centered around, or you can provide specific rules that you want your digital colleague to maintain while it's working on this project specifically.
2:47 So, notebooks are incredible, not only to organize the chats and have them all in a focused location. that you can easily refer back to, but also because every single chat's memory will be siloed to this particular notebook, and it will have access to all the past chats within this notebook, all of the
3:08 sources, and more. Which is just the information that you upload. It can be, as we saw, in the form of a PDF, a Google Drive, or Excel, or anything in your Drive file.
3:19 It can be a website, so for example, if this project is immigration-related, and you only want it to pull information from these three specific websites, like the U.S.
3:29 government site, you can just paste that link in here. And you can also provide copied text if you have a file and you want to just bring it in here quickly.
3:39 But if you're going to set instructions... And if again, The other cool thing is let's say you've had past chats and you say, Oh, my gosh, now I want to be able to organize those in a notebook.
3:55 Well, you can actually just click on the three links three dots by that chat and then select Add to Notebook and then select the notebook you want to add it to, which is just incredible because you can actually go back and organize past chats and start creating those notebooks.
4:14 The other exciting feature is all of the personalization that is now available in Gemini. And personalization, and same as uploading the resources and the custom instructions here in the notebook, is so important because AI, or large language models, contain the world's wealthiest of information, and
4:35 so it has access to so many ancient books and recent websites and so much text that may not be fully applicable to you, and so the more context you can provide, the more instructions around how it operates that you can provide, the more tailored and the more accurate the response will be for what you're
4:54 looking for, and that means less iteration, less back and forth, which means less time. spent, which means less tokens used, which means more human time to do the things that only you can do as a human.
5:07 And so that's why I'm really excited if you go and click on the settings button by your profile. In the lower left, you will be able to access this personal context, and this is where you can actually toggle on memory.
5:22 This is what we call recall memory, where Gemini actually has access to all of your chats, and it goes from and formulates and takes away the most important information and uses that as context for future chats.
5:36 So, I would say toggle that on, and then you can also add these custom instructions. And so, this is where you, you can you put all of the operating behaviors that you want your digital colleague, Gemini, to abide by.
5:52 And so, I put lots of writing rules that any time it responds or creates written text for me, I want it to be very concise.
6:01 I want it to avoid using that, not this, but that language. I want it to communicate in the most direct way possible.
6:08 So, any of those particular writing rules that you want always include my tagline, don't forget the human part on the bottom of any page.
6:16 PDF resource you create. That would be a rule that you would want Gemini to always remember. And, by the way, everything that you include in this text box is going to be input as context whenever you prompt Gemini.
6:32 So, whatever you put in here, think about instructions that you want Gemini to always have, no matter what chat or what project you're interacting with Gemini on.
6:45 So, just to review so far. You have recall memory that Gemini collects based on your past chats. You also have this active memory, which is memory that is always on when you're interacting with Gemini.
7:01 These are specific behavioral rules. You want Gemini to abide by, and then the last source of memory is this import memory to Gemini, and this is particularly applicable if you mostly use ChatGPT or you mostly use another platform, and you want to bring those memories into Gemini.
7:21 And Google is very kind, they give us this prompt that you can just copy, paste directly in ChatGPT, and then paste it directly here, and this will add to Gemini's active memory.
7:33 that it has about you. The last option is with the big providers like ChatGPT and Claude, you can actually import your chats, and they have directions on how to do that right here.
7:47 So, some exciting changes. There's a few other features, including personalization across the Google Workspace, or these avatars that Gemini has created to emulate you.
7:59 But this will be it for this video. I think, in terms of business impact, these are the things that you that really are game changers that Google Gemini has added, and I encourage you to go configure your memory and see how that actually changes the way this digital colleague, Gemini, responds to you
