ChatGPT Feature Comparison: Skills vs. Custom GPTs vs. Projects vs. Agents
A Skill is a set of instructions - packaged as a simple folder - that teaches ChatGPT or your ChatGPT Agent how to handle specific tasks or workflows. Creating Skills requires you, the human, to step back and think about your company-wide, and personal SOPs.
A CustomGPT is a thought-partner or assistant for specific tasks. CustomGPTs can connect to external systems through Actions, but they only operate when a user interacts with them. They do not independently pursue goals or make decisions outside of the conversation. → Think of a CustomGPT as the assistant, and a Skill as the expertise that can be reused across assistants and agents.
Projects are used to organize chats, and can be given specific instructions that apply to all chats within the project. Projects can be shared between team members for collaboration and shared ideas. An Agent is a system that can perform actions based on an overall project, task, or end goal. It can perform actions autonomously, can be scheduled to run at specific times, and can be connected to everything you give it access to. Agents also have memory that builds over time as it learns your work style.
