Refer to Copilot Citations to ground Copilot’s responses in trusted information and verify where details came from.

Copilot Citations
A source is the information Copilot uses to create its response. Depending on your access and Microsoft 365 license, this may include documents, emails, Teams conversations, meetings, SharePoint content, or public web pages.
A citation connects part of Copilot’s response to the source it used. Select a citation to open the referenced content and review the original context.

How to see specific sources and citations

Below the Copilot output, click on "Sources."

For more focused results, tell Copilot which information to use. In Copilot Chat, enter / to reference available files, people, meetings, emails, or conversations.

The Human Part

Citations improve transparency, but they do not guarantee that every response is complete or correct. Open the sources and verify important facts before sharing the output or making a decision.
